Successful double cut costs: G2000 and PrintFlex V3 Seam

Since the application of G2000 and PrintFlex V3 Seam at Norske Skog Steti, PM 4’s mechanical felt damages are consigned to history. Unscheduled downtimes have been minimized and the overall performance of paper machines has been increased. In addition to that, the application of G2000 and PrintFlex V3 Seam allowed extension of felt lifetime and improvement of the overall dewatering in the 4th press. As a result of the new applications, the replacement of felts takes 1 hour - formerly 4 hours - and can be conducted with fewer personnel. These actions have led to significant cost reductions at Norske Skog Steti.

Norske Skog Steti, newsprint manufacturer in the Czech Republic had reported continuous problems with felt lifetime within the 4th press of PM 4. Due to mechanical damages, the felts had to be consistently replaced ahead of schedule. The ultimate cause was the hard nip in the 4th press where a granite roll ran against a grooved steel roll. These harsh conditions in the nip were the reason for running solely seamless felts. Needless to say, Norske Skog Steti was concerned with seam damages and marks.

In order to improve the situation, Norske Skog Steti substituted the grooved steel roll with a G2000 polyurethane cover supplied by Voith Paper Rolls and selected the PrintFlex V3 Seam from Voith Paper Fabrics to ensure adequate machine clothing.

The G2000 roll cover from Voith Paper Rolls is a multilayer polyurethane roll cover with highest temperature stability and lowest temperature development for extremely heavy loaded applications. The drill scheme of G2000 has been adapted according to customer requirements. The fiber-reinforced BaseLayer guarantees both excellent adhesion to the metal core as well as steady runnability.

Voith Paper Fabrics’ PrintFlex V3 Seam is a seamed felt with a Vector Layer. Easy and safe installation paired with a quick start-up and constant felt conditions through life make the felt the top choice in the 4th press. The unique tri-axial Vector Technology provides ideal pressure transmission and non-woven anchorage on the single mono needled fabric base layer.

Voith Paper is a division of Voith and one of the leading partners to the paper industry. Through steady innovations, Voith Paper optimizes the paper production process. More than a third of worldwide paper production is produced on Voith Paper machines.

Voith sets standards in the paper, energy, mobility and service markets. Founded on January 1, 1867, it has a current workforce of approx. 34,000, sales of EUR 3.7 billion and over 250 locations worldwide, and is one of the largest family-owned enterprises in Europe.
