Voith Industrial Services: Voith Industrial Services Wind unveils success strategies for WPP Optimum energy production Voith Industrial Services presents new success strategies for wind power plants at the HUSUMwind fair: In cooperation with Conergy Services GmbH, the industry service provider has come up with a comprehensive service package for WPP operators. Among its latest additions is a lightning protection system for wind power plants. From September 18-22, 2007, Voith Industrial Services in Husum is demonstrating how maintenance costs and energy production can be improved. With almost 400 MW of wind turbine capacity, the Wind business unit of the Voith AG Industrial Services division supplies a wealth of manufacturer-independent services to WPP. These include assembly and maintenance as well as oil service, for example. Further support is now offered by Wind experts in cooperation with Conergy Service GmbH, the 100% subsidiary of Hamburg-based Conergy AG and specializes in the operational management of renewable energy systems. "ProfitGuard" is the name of the combination of technical maintenance and commercial optimization that is set to increase the profitability of WPP. The comprehensive service package promises an increase in sales of up to four percent. In addition to regular maintenance, the lightning protector is an important part of damage prevention for WPP. Lightning is a constant threat to wind turbines, which are typically taller than any other objects in their area. Lightning bolts generate a strong electromagnetic field that can damage the electronics of a turbine, right down to the transformer. The profitability of a WPP can be significantly impaired due to material damage and loss of revenue. Together with the American manufacturer Raycap, Voith Industrial Services Wind is now offering a new overvoltage protection system. It can be retrofitted to existing plants and provides reliable, maintenance-free protection against power surges. Voith Industrial Services is a division of Voith AG and is one of the leading suppliers of technical services. Under the brands DIW, Premier, Hörmann Industrietechnik and Voith, worldwide sales of about 700 million € will be achieved in 2007 from more than 150 sites with 17,000 employees.
