Voith Turbo: Tourism in Emirate on Persian Gulf to Grow by 300 Percent 626 DIWA Transmissions for New Bus Fleet in Dubai Everybody is talking about Dubai, the booming Emirate. Outstanding architecture, artificially created islands with luxury living quarters, extraordinary golf courses and artificial indoor snow resorts - the tourism industry in Dubai is expected to grow by 300 percent over the next ten years. At the same time, the public transport system of the 2.6 million-city Dubai is currently undergoing a massive extension. As part of this program, the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority, RTA, has just ordered 626 new Neoman and Solaris citybuses - all of them with Voith DIWA transmissions of the latest generation. After announcing its first order for DIWA transmissions in Mercedes Benz Citaro and MCV vehicles in Dubai last year, Voith Turbo now participates in the expansion of the public transport network in the Arabian Emirate with a further large order. The order comprises 401 Neoman and 225 Solaris buses. Voith DIWA automatics respond to the demanding climatic conditions in Dubai with a superior cooling concept, which allows continuously low temperature levels. Thermal loads on the engine cooling circuit are practically avoided. The proven DIWA power-split principle offers maximum driving comfort. Voith Turbo will look after the vehicles also after the delivery of the DIWA transmissions, starting in late 2007 and to be completed by the first quarter of 2009. Thanks to a complementary service and maintenance program, the drive components will be kept in optimum condition for at least five years. Maximum availability of the transmission has top priority: service and maintenance will be carried out locally by experienced and qualified Voith personnel. Service exchange units and a test stand at the Voith Center of Competence in Sharjah will ensure speedy reaction times. The new Neoman fleet covers 170 double deckers type Centroliner DD, offering comfortable standing even in the upper deck, thanks to a height of 4.30 meters. Jolt-free driving, a benefit of the DIWA transmission, is particularly important in this respect. Another 150 vehicles comprise articulated buses (Centroliner GL), 75 solo buses (Centroliner) and six midibuses (N 4509). In future, Solaris will be represented in Dubai with two vehicle types: the 18-meter articulated Solaris Urbino 18 (150 vehicles) and another 75 buses type Solaris Urbino 12. The series supplier Voith Turbo has been enjoying a long-standing and trusting business partnership both with NEOMAN Bus and with Solaris. All of the new citybuses have low-floor design and pay tribute to cultural idiosyncrasies of the Arabian world in terms of seating and standing arrangements. There are family zones separated by glass walls that are specially reserved for women and children. The Neoman vehicles also have wheelchair ramps. Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith AG. Voith sets standards worldwide for papermaking technology, power transmission, energy technology, and industrial services. Voith was founded in 1867. With approximately 34 000 employees, annual sales of € 3.7 billion and over 250 locations worldwide, Voith is one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe. Voith is an official partner of the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas." |
