Voith Turbo: Havelländische Eisenbahn AG Decides in Favor of Hydraulic High-Performance Locomotives and Places Order for First Two Voith Maxima 40 C’ C’ Private Railway Relies on Powerful Voith Diesel Hydraulic Locomotives The Brandenburg-based private rail operator Havelländische Eisenbahn AG (HVLE) has ordered two Maxima 40 CC locomotives from Voith Turbo Loko-motivtechnik and thus made a systems decision in favor of the new Voith locomotive in the field of heavy six-axle diesel locomotives. The vehicles will be delivered in 2008 and 2009. The order was placed with an option for another six of these diesel-hydraulic mainline locomotives, currently the most powerful in the world. With this decision, HVLE intends to expand its rolling stock with a locomotive whose basic design alone signifies exceptional reliability. The Maxima has been approved for traffic in Germany, Poland and the Netherlands. Due to the low weight of its hydraulic drive system, the Maxima has a significantly higher tank volume than other locomotives with comparable outputs and therefore offers advantages in terms of operation and economy. According to Havelländische Eisenbahn AG (HVLE) in Berlin-Spandau, the private rail operator, in business since 1892, intends to use more efficient and reliable locomotives in future because of its continuously increasing transport business. With 51 employees and annual sales of € 17, 250,000 HVLE moves 314,000,000 ton-kilometers (net). The current fleet of 17 locomotives is used for all kinds of transport duties. As a transport provider, HVLE organizes, for example, the Brandenburg hinterland traffic for the sea and inland harbors in combination with rail, road and transshipment operations. Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith AG. Voith sets standards worldwide for papermaking technology, power transmission, energy technology, and industrial services. Voith was founded in 1867. With approximately 34,000 employees, annual sales of € 3.7 billion and over 250 locations worldwide, Voith is one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe. Voith is an official partner of the initiative "Germany – Land of Ideas." |
