Voith Turbo: Voith Turbo Scharfenberg Couplers for New Talent 2 Trains of DB AG

Anti-Crash Technology - Not Just Modern But Exemplary

It is one of the largest contracts in the history of Deutsche Bahn AG: an agreement covering a total of 321 new vehicles of the type Talent 2 for DB German Railway's S-Bahn network. The first 42 trains have just been ordered. All of the ultra-modern trains will be equipped with one4 couplers as well as energy absorbing elements from Voith Turbo Scharfenberg. In terms of crash safety, the Talent 2 trains are exemplary: they already meet the future European TSI vehicle norm.

Safety was an essential criterion for the vehicle manufacturer Bombardier when it placed its original equipment orders. The low-maintenance Schaku coupler one4 really stands out as an elementary part of the vehicles. 600 kilojoules energy absorption had been specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Schaku fulfilled this requirement and, at the same time, also the future European vehicle norm TSI.

The new Talent 2 series can be flexibly configured. Arrangements of two- to six-car trains will in future operate on the S-Bahn network of Deutsche Bahn AG. The 42 trains just ordered are destined for the S-Bahn network in Nuremberg, where they will enter service from December 2010. Passengers will benefit from a number of innovations, which significantly increase the comfort and the attractiveness of the trains.

The second-class compartments not only offer comfortable seating and air conditioning as standard, the trains will also meet the requirements of passengers with impaired mobility, vision or hearing.

All operating elements feature touch-read writing. The external and internal areas of the trains also have acoustic and visual passenger information. Floor level retractable steps at the doors reduce the gap between platform and train. The two end cars also have special entries for wheelchair drivers and a toilet for disabled passengers.

Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith AG.
