Press release   December 21, 2007			Voith Paper: Voith Paper concluded with success the 3rd run of the ATMOS technology at the chilean Talagante mill from CMPC, which is considered the 2nd largest tissue producer in Latin America Installation of ATMOS technology is a success in Chile Voith Paper concluded with success the 3rd run of the ATMOS technology at the chilean Talagante mill from CMPC, which is considered the 2nd largest tissue producer in Latin America. The equipment installed at the chilean company changes significantly the tissue market, ensuring the production of premium tissue with significant production costs reduction, for example energy consumption reduction. It is scheduled for the 1st trimester of 2008, the 4th run of the ATMOS with the following targets: further speed increase, energy consumption reduction and development of other premium tissue products. The highlights of this 3rd run were: Production of premium towel with basis weights of 19.0 and 30.0 g/m2 based on 50% Recycled Fiber / 50% Softwood. Machine operation speed of 1150 m/min and maximum speed reached under stable conditions of 1200 m/min with dryness capacity still available for further speed increase during the production of towel paper with 19.0 g/m2 (guaranteed speed of 1068 m/min). Machine operating speed of 800 /mmin during the production of towel paper with 30.0 g/m2, again, with dryness capacity available for further speed increase. Energy consumption (steam, electricity and gas) of the machine on guarantee, with values nearer to conventional tissue production than TAD machines. Due to those and other highlights, the ATMOS technology can be considered a sound productive technology even after a short optimization period when compared to other technologies available in the market for premium tissue production. “It has been confirmed at an industrial scale that the paper quality is as good as was predicted by the pilot trials for all purposes equal to standard TAD, and it is now proven that this is a much simpler way than TAD to make structured tissue”, confirms Carlos Hirigoyen, Director of Industrial Development for CMPC Tissue The innovative ATMOS technology significantly reduces the main problems to produce premium tissue using the TAD technology. Due to the ATMOS, now, it is possible to produce premium tissue based on high contents of Recycled fiber, while maintaining commercial machine speed levels, decreasing the investment costs by 40% and the production costs by 35%, when compared to the TAD technology.
