Voith Paper: After 21 days of felt operating time problems, with constant shadow marking occurring, Scheufelen in Lenningen, Germany was ready for a solution. Voith’s SolarFlow Proves Reliable to Scheufelen After 21 days of felt operating time problems, with constant shadow marking occurring, Scheufelen in Lenningen, Germany was ready for a solution. Scheufelen changed the existing cover at the double suction press roll of PM 6 to the Voith Paper Rolls polyurethane cover, SolarFlow. In addition to a significantly better felt start-up, the runtime of the pick-up felt could be increased up to 32 days, without any shadow marking with the application of SolarFlow. After a few months of operating time, an incident occurred which put SolarFlow to the test. A metal component passed through the press nip and the SolarFlow cover showed a massive surface deformation with a diameter of approx. 80 mm. The roll was dismantled. Actually a reason to grind the roll, but only 20 hours after the incident the deformation was hardly visible. The roll cover had to undergo a thorough ultrasonic testing at the Voith Paper Rolls, Laakirchen service center to ensure there were no underlying issues. The result was clear: No existing surface deformation: the roll cover was as good as new. In the mean time, Scheufelen also had their spare roll covered with SolarFlow. “We are totally satisfied with the performance of SolarFlow. The set targets have been reached within the shortest time. This incident proofed the stability of the cover which anticipates longer running cycles of the roll,” says Ralf Haury, Director of Production, Scheufelen.
