Voith Siemens Hydro Shanghai wins 75 million Euro award for Chinese Dagangshan hydro power project

Shanghai, China: Guodian Dadu River Hydro Power Development Company has awarded a contract to Voith Siemens Hydro Shanghai for supplying four Francis turbines at a rated output of 650 megawatts each for the Dagangshan hydroelectric project. The contract was awarded to the Chinese operating unit of Germany-based Voith Siemens Hydro, a leading global supplier of complete hydro power plants and services.

The Dagangshan Francis turbines as very large machines will be designed with ring gates for shut-off. Voith Siemens Hydro is well acquainted with this highly sophisticated design due to supply of other ring gate machines for several Chinese hydro power plants such as Xiaolangdi, Xiaowan, Jinping II and Nuozhadu.

These ring gates between the wicket gates and the stay vanes of the turbine are lowered and raised through a specifically designed electro-hydraulic motor system. They protect the turbine from silt during the unit’s standstill and thus improve its erosion resistance.

Dagangshan hydro power project is located on Dadu River in Sichuan province. When completely connected to the grid in 2014, Dagangshan hydro power station will have an overall installed capacity of 2600 megawatts. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2013.

Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation is a Group Division of Voith and - with a workforce of around 3,000 employees and an order intake of more than 1 billion Euros in the past business year – Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation belongs to the world-wide leading companies for hydro power equipment.
