Voith Hydro
Largest contract ever for Voith Hydro in Norway: Raanaasfoss Oslo, Norway; Heidenheim, Germany: On June 25, 2010, Voith Hydro Norway and Glomma Kraftproduksjon AS formally signed the contract for the supply and installation of six new units for the Raanaasfoss project. With a total volume of more than 53 million Euros, this award is the largest contract ever for Voith Hydro in Norway. Voith Hydro’s occupation with the project started already 32 months ago performing a study to evaluate different upgrading possibilities for the old Raanaasfoss power plant from 1922. "We presented seven different alternatives to the customer, who, after detailed investigations, calculations and risk analyses, decided to go for completely new vertical propeller turbines placed on top of the existing draft tubes", explains Dr. Gerhard Blaschitz, CEO of Voith Hydro Norway: "It is the best solution to minimize impacts on the waterway and the existing civil structures. No additional coffer dam will be needed. And it is the best option regarding civil cost, too." The signed contract marks the entry into phase two of an existing Frame & Partnership Agreement. In the first contract phase, Voith Hydro performed development and analysis works, including CFD-studies, model tests and optimization of the unit configuration for the modernization of Raanaasfoss. "We are proud to have achieved very good results of the model test. They even exceeded our client’s expectations", says Dr. Blaschitz. In phase two of the project, Voith Hydro will supply and install the complete electromechanical powerhouse equipment. The scope of supply includes six vertical propeller turbines with a maximal output of 15.5 MW each and the related generators, excitation, high voltage equipment, switchgear and control equipment. Furthermore, the powerhouse crane is part of the supply scope as well as other electrical and mechanical Balance of Plant equipment. Commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for December 2012; the last unit will follow in spring 2016. Voith Hydro is a Group Division of Voith and - with a workforce of currently almost 4,700 employees and an order intake of almost 1.3 billion Euros in the business year 2008/2009 - belongs to the world-wide leading companies for hydro power equipment.
