Five and a half years ago, there were seven employees starting to set up Voith Siemens Hydro’s Operating Unit in New Delhi. Today, 120 members of staff are engaged with the growing number of Indian hydro power projects. Obviously, this growth comes hand in hand with the need for space. The new location is to be found in Noida, an upcoming south-eastern suburb of Delhi.

On the occasion of his speech in the new premises, Dr. Lienhard emphasized the importance of the Indian market for Voith Siemens Hydro and of the company’s closeness to its customers which guarantees both better service as well as opti-mal access to local resources.

India is one of the major markets for hydro power and has been growing continu-ously for years. The country’s economic growth rate currently runs at nine per cent. The country utilizes hydro power for more than 110 years. But still only 30 per cent of its hydro power potential have been utilized so far. India is now run-ning an electrification program called “Power for all” which aims at supplying all Indian villages with electricity by 2012.
