Voith Retarder Voted as "Best Brand" 2008

After delivering its 500,000th Retarder only a few weeks ago, Voith Turbo can now celebrate its next success: 8,500 readers of the technical magazines "lastauto omnibus“, "trans aktuell“ and "Fernfahrer“ have voted the Voith Retarder as "Best Brand" in 2008. This voting not only confirms the brand quality, but also the brand awareness and brand likeability among professional drivers. Dr. Volker Zimmermann, Executive Vice President of the Voith Turbo Market Division Road, accepted the prize at the official ceremony in Stuttgart on 24 June.

The 8,500 readers and commercial vehicle pros had been invited to cast their vote for a total of 20 product categories – ranging from brakes, filters, seats, air conditioning and heating to cooling units. In the category "Retarders", Voith Turbo made it to the number one spot, ahead of its competitors ZF, Telma, Frenelsa, Kloft and T.M.M. Incidentally: the previous "Best Brand" voting in 2007 had the same result.

For Dr. Volker Zimmermann this latest award constitutes both a motivation and an obligation to consistently work on the success of the Voith Retarder. "Continuously rising traffic volumes make enormous demands on safety and economy. Retarders offer this extra amount of safety, they are economical and – with brake dust emissions reduced by up to 80% - make a significant contribution to the environment." The voting has also demonstrated the high awareness of the Retarder that has meanwhile been sold over half a million times.

The Voith Retarder is a wear-free continuous brake for trains, coaches, trucks and other commercial vehicles. It offers several advantages to the driver: driving at constant speed is more comfortable, as there is less need for braking and gear-shifting – comparative tests have proven that gear-shifting movements in vehicles with retarders were reduced by 36 percent. The continuous braking power makes driving more predictable and hence safer. The Retarder has also made its mark in terms of environmental and climate protection. It reduces fine brake dust by approximately 80 percent. In addition, average speeds are increased while fuel consumption is reduced.

The Voith Retarder is produced and assembled at the Voith Turbo plant in Munich. Management, sales, marketing, development and service are based in Crailsheim.
