HEIDENHEIM/BRUSSELS. Voith will participate at the Busworld Europe 2019, taking place October 18 – 23 in Brussels, Belgium. At stand 945 in hall 9, the technology group will showcase its latest products and solutions in the e-mobility sector and gear technology. Another topic on the stand will be the benefits for transportation companies through digitizing public transport.

Efficient and reliable electrical drive system for city buses
The Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS) is the first manufacturer-independent complete system that is fully in compliance with automotive standards and fulfills the European lifetime requirements. It includes the electric motor with all drive components, control of the auxiliaries, high-voltage distribution, cooling system and wiring of all these components. Additionally, the plug-and-play roof rack makes it easy for the customer to integrate all of these components into vehicles without a big effort. The water-cooled permanent magnet motor has a high power density of 340 kW and can be used in single, articulated and double decker buses.

At the exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to experience the VEDS in live operation during a test drive in an E-bus.

With the unique and fully electric Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS), Voith enters the growing market for e-mobility.

Advanced transmission technology for efficient bus operation
The new DIWA NXT automatic transmission features an optional mild-hybrid system with a 48V central recuperation unit (CRU) and an additional overdrive gear. As a result, the DIWA automatic drive perfectly meets the needs of the intercity and coach segment. First vehicle findings confirm a high level of passenger comfort and outstanding efficiency. Start of production is planned for 2021. A model of the new DIWA NXT transmission will be displayed at the Voith booth.

Voith’s successful DIWA.6 automatic transmission already offers an additional stop-start function that allows bus operators to increase the efficiency of their buses and at the same time provide added value for the environment. Numerous buses have already been equipped with the DIWA.6 stop-start function. Depending on the operating cycle, fuel savings of up to 12 percent can be achieved.

Strategic partnership for digitalization of public transport
Voith and Pilotfish announced their strategic partnership in January 2019. As one of Europe’s leading providers of on-board IT systems and applications, Pilotfish has already installed systems in over 10,000 buses, trains and trams, in multiple countries. Based on an open standard vehicle communication platform, the company provides applications, hardware and consulting in a portfolio that includes, e.g., eco-driving, tachograph download, automatic fault report, navigation and automatic vehicle data transfer directly into cloud-based analytics. The technology and domain knowledge of Pilotfish complement Voith’s activities in the mobility sector. During the fair, Voith will present the system using a demonstration example. In addition to the digital features, Pilotfish also enables a better fuel consumption and an optimization of the maintenance costs.
