2025-09-09 Voith and ELIN Motoren present E-Pack DS – the optimized electromechanical Drive System

  • Compact: The E-Pack DS features a space-saving and lightweight design, making it up to 30 percent smaller and 10 percent lighter than conventional systems.
  • Economical: With up to 1 percent higher efficiency and significantly reduced power losses, the system lowers total cost of ownership and achieves ROI typically within two to three years.
  • Robust: The integrated, pre-tested all-in-one drive package eliminates sensitive bearings, reduces wear, and ensures long-term reliability with simplified maintenance.
E-Pack DS is a unique synchronized electromechanical drive package with a power transmission of up to 40 MW combining the benefits of the gearbox and motor in a single drivetrain.

HEIDENHEIM, GERMANY. Voith, in cooperation with ELIN Motoren, introduces the E-Pack DS, an advanced electromechanical drive system designed to meet the growing demand for efficient and space-saving electrification solutions in industrial applications. The E-Pack DS is a fully integrated drive package that combines an electrical machine with a high-speed gearbox. It is optimized for use in compressors, pumps, and generators across sectors such as chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and power generation.

The E-Pack DS is engineered for environments with strict space and weight constraints. Its integrated design reduces the system footprint by up to 30 percent and weight by up to 10 percent compared to conventional parallel shaft gear units. The torsionally and laterally optimized drive system simplifies installation, reduces infrastructure requirements, and enables deployment in confined or mobile settings, such as offshore platforms or containerized systems.

The system’s high efficiency of up to 1 percent higher than traditional gear units translates into significant energy savings. With fewer components, reduced power losses, and simplified engineering, the E-Pack DS lowers both capital and operating expenditures. Typical use cases demonstrate a return on investment within two to three years, with long-term operational savings over the system’s 20-to-30-year lifespan.

The E-Pack DS eliminates sensitive high-speed and low-speed bearings, reducing wear and increasing system reliability. All components are pre-assembled and tested as a single unit, ensuring seamless integration and consistent performance. The robust design supports extended service intervals, lower oil consumption, and improved thermal behavior, contributing to long-term durability and operational stability.
