SÃO PAULO/ BRASIL. Voith Paper, a global reference in technologies for the paper industry, supplied the InfibraFiner refiner to the BO Paper mill — a traditional producer of printing and writing papers and an important player in thermomechanical‑fiber‑based papers in Latin America, located in Jaguariaíva (PR). The investment is part of the company’s industrial modernization process, as it diversifies its traditional newsprint operation and expands its production of packaging papers, following the growth trends of the segment in Brazil.

The new equipment will be installed for recycled fiber refining, a crucial step to ensure quality and performance of packaging paper, especially amid the rising use of recycled fibers. The mill currently operates predominantly with mechanical pulp (virgin fiber) and, with the acquisition of the refiner, expands the strategic integration of recycled fibers into its production process.

With the implementation of the InfibraFiner — Voith’s latest refining innovation featuring the most advanced technology available — BO Paper is taking a technological leap by replacing three older refiners with a single modern unit. The new equipment offers greater process consistency, higher refining quality, and a significant reduction in energy consumption.

“The InfibraFiner represents an important advancement for recycled fiber refining, bringing greater energy and operational efficiency. Replacing three refiners with a single unit provides direct gains in both energy consumption and maintenance, while ensuring greater stability and capacity to support future planned grades and new demands of the paper machine,” highlights Rodrigo Ruffo, Sales & Application Manager for Fiber Systems at Voith Paper.

Energy efficiency and operational cost reduction

In addition to supporting increased production capacity and the new fiber mix configuration, the project also contributes to reducing manufacturing costs. One of the main expected benefits is a significant improvement in energy performance: the mill estimates a considerable reduction in idling power, potentially reaching around 45%, a decisive factor for optimizing the industrial process.

Modernization also brings positive impacts on maintenance costs, since the new layout reduces the amount of equipment in operation and, consequently, the need for mechanical interventions and scheduled downtimes.

With this supply, Voith Paper reinforces its role as a strategic partner to manufacturers seeking technological modernization, energy efficiency and competitiveness, supporting the transformation of the sector amid growing demand for sustainable packaging and circular‑economy‑based solutions.
