2026-03-20 Voith boosts packaging paper production at BO Paper’s plant in Jaguariaíva, Paraná
- Modernization of the drainage, vacuum and drying systems will enable the production of high-basis-weight packaging papers and will raise the machine’s production capacity from 24 to 30 tonnes per hour, with greater stability and operational efficiency.
São Paulo, Brazil, March 20th, 2026. Voith is supporting BO Paper—a traditional producer of printing and writing papers and a major player in thermomechanical fiber-based papers in Latin America—in a strategic project at its Jaguariaíva unit in Paraná. The goal is to transition to the production of higher-basis-weight packaging papers and to increase the plant’s production capacity, as it undergoes an adaptation process to meet growing market demand for quality and efficiency. The initiative is part of BO Paper’s strategy to expand its presence in the packaging paper market.
The project aims to increase the basis weight of the papers produced, ensuring an expanded product portfolio. To achieve this, Voith is implementing improvements to the drainage system, including the readjustment of dewatering elements, the automation of vacuum control, and structural refurbishments in the machine’s drying section.
“BO Paper has been working to expand its presence in the packaging segment. This transition requires the machine to operate at higher basis weights and higher speeds compared to the current condition, which calls for specific technical adjustments,” explains Geraldo Bortoluce, Application and Sales Engineer at Voith Paper.
Technical interventions and efficiency – one of the main fronts is the modernization of the drainage system in the paper forming section. By refurbishing the system and incorporating new equipment, drainage becomes more efficient and stable thanks to automatic vacuum control. This set of measures is what enables the simultaneous increase in basis weight and productivity.
Another crucial stage of the project is the refurbishment of the drying section to overcome the current evaporation limitation. Voith will install dryer fabrics on the dryer cylinders of the 3rd lower group and hot-air blow boxes, which help eliminate condensation and increase the equipment’s thermal efficiency.
Expected results – with the improvements, the plant’s production capacity is expected to jump from 24 to up to 30 tonnes per hour, representing a significant gain in productivity and process efficiency.
“This project reflects Voith’s commitment to delivering tailored technical solutions so that our customers can keep pace with market trends, ensuring greater stability, efficiency and quality in the production of packaging papers,” highlights Bortoluce.
The partnership with BO Paper reinforces Voith Paper’s role as a strategic ally to the sector, contributing to the technological evolution of mills and the transition to more flexible and sustainable production models.
