Hydro Training Workshop 2024Day 1 Schedule

7:30 am: Attendee / Facility Tour Registration

8:30 am: Workshop Orientation – Coffee

9:00 am: Morning Training Courses

Course 1.1: Pumped Storage Hydro Plants (Part 1 of 2)

Location: Elizabeth / York Room
Time: 9 am – 12 pm

Part 1

This technical seminar covers the important role that Pump Hydro Storage Plants (PSP) serve in increasing grid resilency of interconnected power systems using a power mix of classical thermal generation power plants and volatile renewable energy sources (RES). The topics include the technical and economic advantages of Pump Hydro Storage Plants. The course will review the design criteria, boundary conditions, typical unit arrangements, comparisons of reversible with ternary power units and special operation modes.

Presenter: Dr. Klaus Krueger, Senior Expert Plant Safety
Host: Leonardo Penteado, Manager of Service

Course 2: Hydro Generators – Design, Operation and Maintenance

Location: Red Rose Auditorium
Time: 9 am – 12 pm

The session will explore the role of active components, review the mechanical design of hydro generators and present topics for operation and maintenance consideration, as well as approaches for modernization and rehabilitation. The modernization solutions will be reviewed in relation to the lifecycle of various systems and equipment.

Presenter: Sigmar Dau, Senior Engineer, Mechanical
Host: Sylvia Gaidauskas, Director of Proposal

Course 3: Hydro Turbines – Design, Operation and Maintenance

Location: White Rose Auditorium
Time: 9 am – 12 pm

The focus of this session is to elaborate on the reliable operation, maintenance, and inspection of hydraulic turbines. Case study will present the repair of turbine subsystems such as embedded parts, runner, wicket gates, guide bearing, shaft seal, and oil head.

Presenters: Stephan Locus, Engineering Manager, Thomas Ort, Mechanical Engineer
Host: Lawson Crichton,  Senior Business Development

12:00 pm: Lunch Break (Fenderz Restaurant)

1:00 pm: Afternoon Training Courses
