Screening and fractionation
Highly efficient removal of undesirable contaminants
Screening systems are used in various phases of stock preparation and papermaking for all kinds of furnish. They remove unwanted material like plastics, shives and splinters, fiber bundles, sand and stickies.
The purpose of fractionation is to separate the stock fibers into a long and a short fiber fraction. Depending on requirements, each fraction is then used directly for papermaking or undergoes further treatment.
Voith has a modularized screening portfolio of high-performance screens available for the diverse tasks within screening and fractionation.

IntegraScreen
IntegraScreen is a BlueLine product
Efficient screening in stock preparation
The centrifugal screening principle with the rotor on the inlet side gives outstanding screening results. The flow-optimized machine housing contributes to the efficient screening process of IntegraScreen in stock preparation for all kinds of furnish. It generates constant flow and pressure conditions around the basket. The combination of the high-quality Voith rotors and screen baskets leads to high removal efficiencies. In coarse screening, IntegraScreen combined with the Steprotor or EclipseR is used to remove plastics, Styrofoam and other coarse particles.
In fractionation and fine screening, the IntegraScreen combined with the MultiFoil rotor and C-bar screen basket shows highest sticky removal efficiency. As a result, higher runability of the paper machine as well as increased paper quality can be achieved. In addition, the high-quality screening equipment reduces maintenance costs.
The improved machine housing enables the discharge of the light reject via the standard reject pipe for most applications and simplifies the system integration. This saves investment cost for piping, valves, pump and instrumentation as well as energy costs. If required from process technology, an additional light reject discharge can be used.
The flow principle from the bottom to the top enables an integration of the reject recirculation into the machine, preferably at the final stage. Together with the additional reject dilution, simplified by the up-flow principle, the thickening of the reject will be reduced. Thus, clogging caused by too high thickening will be avoided. Furthermore, the lower reject consistency leads to a reduction of losses.
In the approach flow system, IntegraScreen is installed in second and third stages in front of the headbox in combination with MultiFoil rotors and C-bar screen baskets. Thick stock screening or broke screening will also be easily handled by the IntegraScreen combined with a C-bar HerculeX screen basket.
The BlueLine product range from Voith comprises modern machines and products for stock preparation that are characterized above all through the efficient use of energy and other raw materials and by gentle treatment of the fibers.

Higher Runability
The flow-optimized machine housing in combination with the high-quality Voith MultiFoil rotor and C-bar screen basket leads to high sticky removal efficiency.
Reduced Fiber Loss
The thickening of the reject will be decreased due to the additional reject dilution as well as the integration of the reject recirculation into the machine. As a result, fiber losses will be reduced.
Lower Maintenance Cost
The standardization of spare parts within the Integra product family reduces the required storage area. Moreover, high-quality screening equipment from Voith enables long running times.
Lower Energy Consumption
The use of low energy rotors achieves lower energy consumption and reduces energy costs.
MultiScreen
Efficient screening for low consistency applications with highest throughput
The centrifugal screening principle with the rotor on the inlet side gives outstanding screening results. As with the IntegraScreen, the flow-optimized machine housing contributes to the efficient screening process of MultiScreen. By using a MultiFoil rotor and C-bar screen baskets, the screening is efficient and free of malfunctions. In addition, the high-quality screening equipment reduces maintenance costs. The MultiScreen is based on long experience and gives high operational reliability. The available screen sizes are suitable for low-consistency applications with high throughput requirements.
Your benefits
- High separation efficiency
- Low energy consumption
- Rotor eliminates stringing to ensure high operational stability
FiberSorter
Operationally reliable screening for highest contaminant content
The FiberSorter allows efficient screening and deflaking of paper grades that are difficult to pulp. It achieves a very high degree of deflaking efficiency, i.e., up to 80%.
The FiberSorter is suitable for intake stock consistencies of 3% to 5%. It works in an absolutely operationally reliable fashion, even with the highest contaminant content, thanks to the use of defibering blocks when deflaking. This achieves an optimized ratio between machine volume and screening surface and a tangential intake. A continuous light rejects overflow, and screen holes with a diameter between 2.0 and 4.0 millimeters also contribute to a high degree of deflaking effectiveness of up to 80%. Rotor assembly is extremely easy thanks to the shrink-on disc.
Your benefits
- Reliable operation even at highest contaminant content
- Fiber recovery due to high deflaking potential
- Shrink-on disc for easy rotor assembly
IntegraCombisorter
Highly efficient tail screen for minimum fiber loss
IntegraCombisorter is a continuously operated, highly efficient tail screen for separating plastics and light rejects. It provides high yield with minimum fiber loss. Thanks to the very high consistency in the reject discharge, no other thickening machine is required.
The IntegraCombisorter is characterized by a high deflaking efficiency with proven separation of plastic and Styrofoam from fibers. It achieves a high reject consistency up to 30% so that no additional reject pre-dewatering is required.
Based on more than 20 years of experience with Combisorter CSM, IntegraCombisorter is exceptionally robust and ensures reliable operation. It is used in coarse screening and for intermediate screen in combi-screening. The IntegraCombisorter tail screen is available in two sizes with final stage production quantities up to 200 metric tons per 24 hours.
The BlueLine product range from Voith comprises modern machines and products for stock preparation that are characterized above all through the efficient use of energy and other raw materials and by gentle treatment of the fibers.

Reduced Fiber Loss
To prevent fiber loss, IntegraCombisorter can handle high throughput with a small amount of rejects that are washed and thickened in the machine.
RejectSorter
Tail screen for small production
The proven RejectSorter is used as pressureless tail end sorter and serves the continuous removal of light non-paper components. It provides high yield with minimum fiber loss. Thanks to the very high consistency in the reject discharge, no other thickening machine is required.
The RejectSorter is very similar to the IntegraCombisorter characterized by a high deflaking efficiency. With the adjustable guiding plates, the washing efficiency of the RejectSorter can be adjusted and the fiber loss reduced.
The RejectSorter is applied in coarse screening when small production is required.
Your benefits
- High screening efficiency
- Suitable for high inlet consistencies and high concentrations of contaminants
- High reject dry content
IntegraGuard
High-quality protection for the approach flow
The flow optimized design of the screen allows a homogeneous screen passing velocity. Creating a homogeneous screen passing velocity helps to eliminate the root for stringing. The eccentrically positioned screen basket avoids deposits. As a result, IntegraGuard helps to improve the paper machine runability.
Pulsation of screening systems in the approach flow has to be avoided to ensure a consistent and homogeneous suspension at the headbox. The new head piece design of IntegraGuard allows a straight feed to the screen basket. This reduces the pressure drop and increases the differential speed between fluid and rotor. Due to the adapted head piece, only a low rotor speed is required, which significantly decreases the pulsations in the outlet.
